Seeking students to act as Program Directors for June 2024 bootcamp
A good project for high school students looking for college essay topics . . .
Hello,
I will be offering the course again in June/July 2024. In preparation, I am looking for high school students who want to work with me as “Program Directors” for the course.
E-mail me (dave.kane@gmail.com) if you are interested.
I expect that this would take about 5 hours per week Feb through May.
This is a volunteer position. As with the course, I don’t pay you, and you don’t pay me.
The ideal person would be a high school student who has taken the course before. But I am open to working with anyone interested in working with me.
The primary project is to get the word out about the course. My goal is to have 200 students take the course this spring. The last two years of running the course have shown me, however, that it is hard to give away high quality instruction on the internet. Which is both annoying and surprising!
I am open to various strategies but, as best I can tell, we just need to figure out contact information for lots of high school teachers and then reach out to them, one-by-one. This is a time intensive process. We should also make better use of social media.
Are you a high school student looking for a project which might look good on a college application and/or make a good topic for a college essay? If so, I think that this is a great project! We are really, I think, making the world a better place by providing high school students, many of them poor and attending below average high schools, with a free, high quality, data science education. Come work with me!
UPDATE: Changed the title from Executive Directors to Program Directors since, as someone pointed out to me, multiple executive directors makes no sense.
If there is something I can do to still help out, I would welcome the opportunity.
