I offer unpaid data science apprenticeships, generally during the summer but also during other seasons for students with free time. I have worked with about 50 students over the last 5 years. Four of them have kindly volunteered to speak with interested students about the experience. Feel free to contact:
Becca Gill (Yale) at beccabgill116@gmail.com
Nosa Lawani (Harvard) at nlawani@college.harvard.edu
Nuo Wen Lei (Brown) at nuowen0612@gmail.com
Ryan Southward (Stanford) at rysouth32@gmail.com
Note:
These positions involve no money. I don’t pay you, and you don’t pay me. We are colleagues working on data science together.
Things work best if you can devote 40 hours per week. We meet (via Zoom) every weekday. We review the work you have done. We discuss next steps. However, depending on your background and other obligations, the internship might work at 20 hours per week.
The main focus is my textbook and the associated tutorials. If you have a more technical background, then we will work on more technical problems. If I offer the course again, you will have the option to TF. You will get much better at data science and at software development.
No worries if you can’t work all summer. Family comes first!
The most common background is someone who has taken my course and is either still in high school or a first/second year in college. (Older students, one hopes, can/should find paid internships.) If you have done some programming, then I am happy to work with you even if you have not taken the course.
Feel free to email me (dave.kane@gmail.com) to discuss. If you are younger than 18, your parents are welcome (but not required) to speak with me as well.
